The crew on a puddle jumper

Here is the crew on the 'puddle jumper' that travels between Belize City and San Pedro. This flight was actually smoother than the 'big' plane we rode.

Made it to TREC

We all made it to Belize City and then San Pedro. The plane rides were uneventful though crowded. Here at TREC the wifi is not strong enough to upload pictures. Tomorrow we will find a faster connection. Also, tomorrow we will just practice in the ocean and decide what information to collect and how best to collect it.  I am need of a gear shop to repair a clip on one of my fins. Hopefully they will have what I need (at a reasonable price).

Packing

It is so much fun to unpack from summer camp and then repack for Belize. My suitcase is packed and I am getting my personal bag ready. Lots of tech stuff (as usual) is going into my bag (laptop, camera, video, camera, water video camera, assorted cables, green laser light, flash light, . . . ).

Getting Ready

While at Texas Tech this summer for class (summer camp), we were given a list of 70 different fish that will be seen in Belize. I have most of them committed to memory. Now I just hope the fish will stay still long enough for me to recognize them and count. I leave today to stay with a friend in Denton before we head to the airport tomorrow. We do not expect to actually be in the ocean tomorrow but it would be nice.

Applied for Belize Research

Last summer during our (MS)^2 summer session, we were told of an opportunity to travel to Belize and conduct research on the fish that live on the coral reef. I and several others from my cohort applied in November of 2011 for a chance to go with Dr. Mark McGinley. On December 20, we were given our confirmation.
